Why I Do This Work
I have been a registered nurse for more than 30 years, giving me a unique perspective on the healthcare profession and the demands placed on those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. I understand the pace, the responsibility, the emotional demands, and the expectation to keep moving forward even when you're running on empty. I also understand the experience of navigating healthcare as an African American professional.
Culture, race, gender, professional expectations, and life experiences can influence how we experience stress, success, relationships, and mental health. These factors deserve to be understood—not overlooked—when developing your treatment plan. My experience allows me to meet you with both clinical expertise and an understanding of the environment in which many healthcare professionals and high-achieving individuals live and work.
Who I Serve
I work with teens and adults in Michigan who are often highly functional on the outside but may be struggling internally. You may be successful and still feel overwhelmed. You may be accomplished and still experience anxiety. You may love your career and still be burned out. You may take care of everyone around you while finding it difficult to make yourself a priority. Lets create a plan to reduce these feelings and increase your quality of life.
My practice has a particular focus on:
• African American men and women
• Healthcare professionals and caregivers
• Executives, entrepreneurs, and other high-responsibility professionals
Why FOCUS ON YOU?
Because functioning isn't the same as flourishing. Many high-achieving individuals become very skilled at pushing through discomfort. You may have learned to work harder, stay busy, solve problems, and keep moving. But constantly pushing through isn't always sustainable.
FOCUS ON YOU provides a space to step back and ask:
How am I really doing?
What do I need?
What is no longer working?
What kind of life do I want to create?
These questions are not signs of weakness.
They are part of taking care of yourself.
